Three persons found not guilty of rape

The Second Additional District and Sessions Judge Uma M.G. on Tuesday acquitted three persons charged with sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl in Perlampady on October 15, 2011.

Sullia police arrested Kusumadhar, Lokesh, and Puneet for allegedly sexually assaulting the girl in a house in Perlampady. Apart from charging the three of sexual assault, police charged them under the provisions of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The Judge did not find evidence supporting charges made against the three persons and acquitted them.

Girl molested

Meanwhile, another 17-year-old girl accused two persons of molesting her while she was returning home, under Mulki police station limits on Thursday.

According to the police, the girl has accused Dayanand and Honnappa, residents of girl’s village, of pushing her aside and then molesting her. The police have registered the case and are on the look out for the accused.

Autorickshaw driver run over by train

A 42-year-old autorickshaw driver was run over by a train between the Netravathi Bridge and Ullal Railway Station on Thursday morning. The Government Railway police gave his name as Bharat Kumar, a resident of Sundarbagh in Ullal.

Suicide

Honnurappa (33) of Lingappaih Kadu was found hanging from the roof of his house within Mulki police station limits on Thursday. The police said Honnurappa was suffering from an ailment on his right leg for the past few months.

Police seize two trucks of sand

The Puttur Rural police have seized two lorries for allegedly illegally transporting sand to Kerala. The police said sand was being transported from Eshwarmangala to a place in Kerala using the license issued for the route Udupi to Mysore. The police have referred the case to the Mines and Geology Department.

Woman inmate goes missing

An inmate of the Nittur Stree Seva Niketan (Women’s State Home) in Udupi has been missing since September 4. The police said they searched for Anjali Satyavan Kharade (29), a resident of Sunkeri, on Wednesday, but could not find her. A case had been registered. Ms. Kharade can speak Kannada, Konkani, and Marathi, the police said.
