Three arrested on fraud charge in Puttur

The firm closed in August, 2014 after collecting from 700 persons. The Puttur rural police inspector has been asked to investigate the case.

The Puttur rural police have arrested three persons on the charge of cheating after they allegedly collected money but failed to give electronic and household articles in return.

A complaint was filed against Varidhi Enterprises in Santhekatte in Belthangady. The firm reportedly collected Rs. 100 every week from people and then using a draw of lots would select a person who would get a television, sofa set or any other household article.

The firm closed in August, 2014 after collecting from 700 persons. The Puttur rural police inspector has been asked to investigate the case.

The police arrested Yashwant, Suresh and Niranjan who ran the firm. The police are on the look out for the fourth person also associated with the firm.

Man dies of snake bite

Nirmal Mallik (42), a labourer on a farm in Belthangady, died on Saturday after being bitten by a snake on August 26. The police said Nirmal, a native of Odisha, was admitted to a private hospital in Belthangady following the bite in Hebbar Estate in Neriya. He was shifted to the Government Wenlock Hospital two days ago where he succumbed to death

Man robbed

Two unidentified persons allegedly stole a gold chain belonging to Anand Putran on Friday. According to the Kota police, Mr. Putran was returning home on a scooter on Friday, when two people, aged between 25 and 30 years, stopped him. When Mr. Putran slowed down, the duo pushed the vehicle and he fell down.

The duo then snatched his gold chain and ran away from the scene. The value of the chain stolen has been estimated at Rs. 30,000. A case has been registered at the Kota police station and investigations are on, the police said.
