The Hindu in School for 2015-16 launched

The fourth edition of The Hindu in School – the newspaper in a condensed form for students – was launched in Mangaluru on Friday at the The Manipal School, which has been associated with The Hindu ’s Newspaper in Education programme for the last four years.

The launch of the student’s edition for the new academic year turned special as it was part of the school’s World Environment Day programme. The school assembly was extended by about 15 minutes to accommodate the launch.

The Hindu Newspaper in Education Programme for the last four years and many students had been subscribing to the student edition.

The Hindu in School will be made compulsory for all students from class 5.

As part of the curriculum, students will be encouraged to read newspaper in the first 10 minutes in the classroom and discuss the news with their classmates. “Start with sections that interest you and move to other sections in the newspaper,” said Ms. Shivaram while emphasising on effectiveness of physically reading the newspaper.

Regional General Manager, The Hindu , Mangaluru, G.R. Venkatesh, spoke briefly about the student’s edition and on the Newspaper in Education programme.

The student’s edition of The Hindu has been designed keeping in mind the needs of young minds and to inculcate newspaper-reading habit. Apart from current affairs of the country, the student edition comes with news around the world related to science, arts, environment and sports.

The school edition also has weekly columns such as Teacher’s Corner, Childspeak, Know Your English, World in a Limerick (related to world affairs) and The Wow Column, which features life and language skills for children. The Hindu will also conduct a host of programmes for the overall development of students as a part of its Newspaper In Education programme. The subscription of The Hindu in School is priced at Rs. 450.
