K. Raghupati Bhat, MLA, on Friday directed the officers of the Minor Irrigation Department to take action against the staff who had failed to put up gates at the vented dams at Neelavar, Barkur and Uggelbettu villages. He was speaking at the general body meeting of Udupi Taluk Panchayat here.
Mr. Bhat said that the inaction by the staff of the department had resulted in salt water from the sea entering the areas upstream in these three villages and creating problems for the people. The officers should also give proper information about the Ganga Kalyan scheme to the people.
He said that there were complaints from the beneficiaries of the Sandhya Suraksha, widow pension scheme, old age pension scheme and disabled persons scheme that they were not getting their pensions properly for the last seven months. Tahsildars of Udupi, Brahmavar and Kaup taluks should hold a joint meeting with the officers of the Treasury and solve this problem, he said.

When members of the taluk panchayat raised the issue of location of the Sub-Registrar’s Office in Brahmavar, Mr. Bhat said that space would be provided for the Sub-Registrar’s Office in the Mini Vidhana Soudha to be constructed at Brahamvar.
After some members said that physically challenged persons had to go to Mangaluru to get their bus passes, Mr. Bhat said that he would take up the matter with the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) in Mangaluru.
The meeting passed a resolution stating that the Ayushman Bharat scheme and the Arogya Karnataka scheme should not be merged.

Later, Harikrishna Shivathaya, Assistant Director, Taluk Panchayat, who retired from service, was felicitated.
