Akshay K., a class four student from Sangabettu Government Primary School, wanted the authorities to provide a textbook for his teacher so that the latter does not have to borrow one from students every time while teaching.
Samarth M. from Mavinakatte Government Higher Primary School said the playground of his school was too small and they could not practice for the district and State-level sports contests.
These were some of the many problems raised by students from around 160 gram panchayats who participated in an interaction programme with the district administration here on Friday. Zilla Panchayat (ZP) president Asha Thimmappa Gowda, Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim, ZP Chief Executive Officer P.I. Sreevidya and other officials participated in the programme.

Aditi from Morarji Desai Residential School in Belthangady complained about people drinking alcohol near her school. A student from a government school from Kuvettu village alleged that gunny bags filled with used disposable syringes were being dumped on the road leading to the school.
Rakshita from Government Higher Primary School, Keddalike, near Bantwal, said the school had been maintaining cleanliness in the area around their school and disposing plastic bags systematically on a portion of land on the school premises. “The plastic waste is increasing and the panchayat personnel are not coming to take away the waste,” she said.
Some students complained of absence of computer teachers, while a few said that computers in their school had not been repaired for several weeks. Some also complained of absence of toilets and poor quality of construction of toilets in some schools.
