Students of Derik's Chess School have performed well in the Chess Association of India's under-8, under-12 and under-16 Boys and Girls Chess Championship held in Pune.
The school said in a press release that its students bagged one gold, one bronze and three silver medals.
In the under-12 girls' category, Prerna Rai dominated the category by scoring 7 points in 7 rounds to win the top honour and returned with a gold.

Reesha Shenoy scored 6 points to win the runner-up title and the silver medal.
In the under-12 boys' category, Arjun Adappa, after initial setback, came back strongly to score 6 points in 7 rounds to win the runner-up position.
In the under-16 girls' category, Mahima Khandige scored 5.5 points to win the runner-up place. Both the players were given silver medals.

In the under-8 girls' category, Ishani Rai scored 5 points and her better tie-break points helped her to clinch third position and claim the lone bronze medal.
Following were the other notable performances: Poorvi Adappa 5 points, 4{+t}{+h} place, and B. Akhila 4 points, 8{+t}{+h} place (both under-8 girls); Sanjay D Kulal, Ramik R Kumar, Shanmuga B. placed 5{+t}{+h}, 6{+t}{+h} and 8{+t}{+h} with 5 points each, Mayank J. Shetty 4.5 points, 10{+t}{+h} place (all under-8 boys); Dhrikshu Vasanth and Akhil R.M. 5 points each, 8{+t}{+h} and 10{+t}{+h}, respectively (both under-12 boys); Athul Shetty 5 points 10{+t}{+h} place (under-16 boys); Sanchitha Kamath 4 points, 10{+t}{+h} place (under-16 girls).
