Speakers at the The Hindu -EDGE Career Counselling-2018 session here on Saturday asked students to opt for a career of their choice based on their aptitude without succumbing to any external pressures.
Speaking after releasing ‘thenxt.step’, a career handbook, at the session, Krishna Prasad Rai, correspondent, Ramakrishna Education Institutes, Mangaluru, said that taking a decision on which career to opt for is a difficult task.
Mr. Rai said that counselling sessions would help students in taking early decisions on selecting courses.

Sarfraz Hasim J., Director (Academics) of P.A. College of Engineering, Mangaluru, who spoke on different branches of engineering said that one should have goal in life.
“Early planning would help to reach the goal. One should have a feel for the career of his or her choice.”
Rohan Chandra Gatty, senior cancer specialist and surgeon, who threw light on medical education and medical profession, said that a doctor should be ready to sacrifice personal and much of family life.

“Once you opt for a career there should not be any regrets. One should march ahead like being wedded to a profession.”
Nagarajappa M., Deputy Director, Department of Pre-University, Dakshina Kannada, spoke on the counselling process by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) for those who appeared for the Common Entrance Test (CET).
He said that this year’s CET results have not been announced as the KEA was waiting for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to announce the results of Class 12. Incidentally the results were announced on Saturday.
Mr. Nagarajappa said that students who applied under different reservation categories should produce the caste certificates issued by the tahsildar.
A caste certificate issued is valid for five years. Salary slips and IT return copies of parents will not be considered as proof of income or income certificate. The income certificate should be issued by the Revenue Authority.
He asked students to follow the website of the KEA for all updates on the counselling process.
Fatha Khan, a resource person from CIGMA India, a Bengaluru-based career counselling and training organisation, spoke. Kishore Kumar Rai Sheni, Principal, Ramakrishna Pre-University College was present. The session was held at Geetha S.M. Shetty Hall, Sri Ramakrishna College, Bunts Hostel.
