One candidate representing Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) but contesting as an independent is facing murder charge, and four other candidates are facing charges of causing grievous hurt.
SDPI’s Mohammed Navaj, who filed his nomination for the Mangalore constituency, said in his affidavit that he was facing charges of murder (IPC section 302), assault (353), and criminal conspiracy (120B) at Bantwal police station.
Since SDPI is not registered as a political party, the candidate is contesting as an independent.

Independent candidate Mohammed Haneef, who filed his nomination as an independent candidate in the same constituency, is facing charges of causing hurt with dangerous weapons (IPC sections 323 and 324) in Bantwal Rural Police station. Dayanand Shetty, whom the Karnataka Janata Party has fielded in Mangalore City South constituency, is facing the charges of causing grievous hurt (326), house trespass (448), and rioting (147 and 148), and being a member of unlawful assembly (143) at Manchekal Police Station in Shirva (Udupi district).
SDPI Activists S. Abdul Azeez and Aboobakker, who filed their candidature for Mangalore North constituency on Tuesday, are facing charges of dacoity (Section 395 of Indian Penal Code) and attempt to murder (Section 307). Mr. Azeez and Mr. Aboobakker are facing the charges in the case registered by Mangalore South police station in 2008.
