Refunds made, restoration of track under progress

While Konkan Railway Corporation has made alternative travel arrangements, after the derailment of the LTT-Ernakulam Junction Duranto Express, it has arranged full refund of fare to passengers of Train No. 12133 CSTM-Mangaluru Junction Express, which was partially cancelled between Madgaon and Mangaluru.

Full refund

KRCL has said instead of refunding the amount equivalent to untraveled portion of the journey as per the rules, it has decided to refund the full amount as a special gesture. By 5 pm, it had disbursed Rs. 2.56 lakh refund to passengers.

Special train

Meanwhile, passengers of the Duranto Express were taken to Ernakulam in a special train by converting the rake of Mangaluru-Madgaon Passenger that was terminated at Karwar.

They were brought to Karwar by the remaining three coaches of the Duranto as well as the Madgaon-Mangaluru DEMU train. Senior KRCL officials accompanied the passengers in the special train and made full-fledged catering arrangement, a release from KRCL said.

Restoration in progress

Seven of the 10 derailed coaches have been re-railed and the restoration work is on.

All out efforts are being made to restore the section at the earliest possible, the release said.

Supervision

KRCL’s director (Operations and Commercial) Sanjay Gupta and Principal Chief Engineer Rajesh Agarwal supervised the restoration work being done by over 155 workers.
