Those walking on Court Road were struck by the beauty of a variety of colorful rangolis drawn in front of the Taluk Panchayat. But unlike traditional rangolis, these had a message — urging people to vote in the parliamentary elections on April 17. They had been drawn as part of a rangoli competition organised by the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Committee.
Deputy Commissioner Muddu Mohan and Chairperson of SVEEP Committee M. Kanagavalli inaugurated the competition by putting in colours in the rangolis drawn. Nearly 50 teams comprising about 200 persons, who had Elector’s Photo Identity Card (EPIC) participated in the competition. Participants were provided with certificates and mementoes.

Later, a jatha , urging voters to vote, was taken out from Jodu Katte to Service Bus Stand. A team of skaters also carried placards having messages of importance of voting.
Pranesh Rao, Deputy Secretary of Zilla Panchayat, Manjunathayya, Executive Officer of Udupi Taluk Panchayat, Ramachandra Bairy, District Health and Family Welfare Officer, Sadananda, Child Development Project Officer, Subramanya, Environment Engineer of Udupi municipality, were present.
