Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will address a convention of the Bharaitya Janata Party (BJP) at the Nehru Maidan and a meeting of intellectuals at TMA Pai International Convention Centre here on Saturday, according to K. Monappa Bhandary, former MLC and former president of the Dakshina Kannada unit of the party.
Speaking to the media here on Wednesday, Mr. Bhandary said that cluster-level workers of the party from Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga and Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituencies will participate in the convention at the maidan at 11 a.m.
About 10,000 workers from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts are expected to attend it.

The convention will be organised to prepare and encourage the party workers to face the coming Lok Sabha elections.
Later, Mr. Rajnath Singh will address intellectuals at the convention centre at 4 p.m. Lawyers, retired officials, businessmen, retired defence personnel and other members of civil society have been invited to it.
B.S. Yeddyurappa, president, State unit of the party, C.T. Ravi, general secretary of the State unit, and other leaders of the party will participate in both the events, he said.

Of the 25 Assembly segments in the four districts (Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru), the BJP has won in 22 constituencies leaving three to the Congress in last year’s Assembly election.
Of the eight Assembly constituencies in Dakshina Kannada, the BJP bagged seven segments leaving one (Mangaluru) to the Congress. It bagged all the five Assembly constituencies in Udupi district. Of the five Assembly segments in Chikkamagaluru district — Chikkamagaluru, Mudigere, Tarikere, Kadur and Sringeri, the BJP has won in four leaving Sringeri to the Congress. Of them, Chikkamagaluru, Mudigere and Tarikere segments (all won by the BJP) and Sringeri (won by the Congress) come under the jurisdiction of the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency.
Of the seven Assembly segments in Shivamogga district, the BJP has won in six segments leaving Bhadravathi to the Congress.
Byndoor Assembly segment in Udupi district, won by the BJP, comes under the Shivamogga Lok Sabha Constituency.
