Raising awareness on endosulfan victims’ plight

A clay sculpture depicting the plight of Endosulfan victims, on display at Palimar in Udupi district.

Artists of the Manipal Sand Heart Team carved a clay sculpture, to raise awareness about the plight of those affected by agrichemical endosulfan in parts of the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Kasaragod district in Kerala, at Palimar village in Udupi district on October 18.

The sculpture will be on display at Pinto Villa in Palimar till October 21.

A press release issued here on Friday stated that Srinath Manipal, Venki Palimar and Ravi Hirebettu had carved the sculpture during a clay sculpture camp for art lovers organised by Vruksha Kala of Udupi in Palimar. Nearly 130 art lovers, including schoolchildren and their parents, participated in the camp.

The sculpture depicted a helicopter spraying chemicals such as endosulfan and two infants and a tree affected by it. Leader of the team Mr. Manipal told

The Hindu on Friday that the main aim of the sculpture was to raise awareness about the harmful affects of endosulfan. Those affected by it were facing health problems. “We want the government to give compensation to the victims and philanthropists to help them,” he said.
