The Dakshina Kannada unit of People’s Union Civil Liberties (PUCL) on Thursday demanded expeditious inquiry into the alleged forgery of a divorce decree about which a complaint was filed months ago.
PUCL unit president David D’Souza and past president P.B. D’Sa said that the Sheristedar of the Principal Civil Judge and JMFC Court had given the complaint saying that the divorce decree of Everest Pereira and Carmeline Pereira was issued after the death of the former.
There was no reason to issue such a decree when the former was no more, the Sheristedar had pointed out, while seeking action against those who allegedly forged the signature of a judge and fabricated the document and then submitted it to court.

The complaint, filed against unknown persons on October 30 last year, said that the copy of the decree was submitted on behalf of Gladys Almeida to court by advocate M.P. Naronha, who has since withdrawn himself from the case.
Mr. D’Sa said that the PUCL has been fighting for the interests of Ms. Carmeline Pereira who had approached it for help.
