After the Horticulture Junction-Bendoorwell road became one-way, two accidents took place near Hotel Kumar International

The city traffic police closed a gap in the median near Hotel Kumar International on the road between Horticulture Junction and Bendoorwell Junction following two accidents there on Thursday.

From Monday, the city police changed the two-way traffic on this four-lane road to one-way from Horticulture Junction towards Bendoorwell Junction.

On Thursday, a motorist on a two-wheeler was hit by a bus from behind while he was taking a right turn at the median gap before Bendoorwell Junction. The motorist was admitted in a hospital.

Few minutes earlier, a multi-utility vehicle taking a right turn at the same median gap was hit by a car coming in from Horticulture Junction, like the bus.

The two incidents led to snap protests by residents and other motorists, who blocked movement of vehicles on one lane of the road. The police took time to pacify the protesters and then closed the gap.

Other arrangements

Meanwhile, police have placed barricades to allow parking of vehicles picking up and dropping children at St. Theresa School, close to Horticulture Junction. The school management had brought to the notice of police about problems students were facing in reaching the school because of the change in the vehicle movement pattern.

Police Commissioner R. Hithendra said police were studying the new traffic movement pattern for a fortnight. Changes, if any, will be done before a notification is issued about the new traffic movement to decongest Balmatta and Bendoorwell junctions.
