Poetry should transcend time and boundaries, says scholar

Poetry collection of folklore varsity’s former V-C released

The former Vice-Chancellor of Kannada University and scholar B.A. Vivek Rai said here on Saturday that poetry should transcend time and boundaries.

He was speaking after releasing Kittale Hannalla , a collection of 30 poems by K. Chinnappa Gowda, former Vice-Chancellor, Karnataka Folklore University and researcher at the Patrika Bhavan.

Poetry is relevant for all the times. But it is becoming rare in literary world, he said, adding poetry begins where prose ends.

Mr. Rai said that poetry should enable one to introspect.

Mr. Gowda’s poems make one peel through layers of his experiences in life like one would taste an orange, he said.

B. Surendra Rao, historian, critic, and author, said the collection by Mr. Gowda leaves a lot more unsaid and this is the hallmark of a poet.

Mr. Gowda said that it was his first collection of poems to be released and some efforts to compose them to music are on.
