Parents want teachers' appointment shelved

December 22, 2011 11:34 am | Updated 11:34 am IST - MANGALORE:

The parents' association of Morarji Desai Residential School of Kammaje in Manglaore taluk has demanded that the appointment of new teachers be put off until the academic year is over as children will be inconvenienced as the final examinations are nearing.

Association president Nagraj Devadiga told presspersons here that a few days ago, the results of the qualifying examination for the appointment of teachers in Morarji Desai Schools were declared and many teachers at Morarji Desai Schools who wrote the examination had failed for want of a few marks. If they had been given a few grace marks, they too would have passed, he said. “It is only fair to give grace marks to the teachers who have looked after our children as their own, especially when they were under-staffed,” Mr. Devadiga said.

Association member Mallappa Gowda said the teachers were under pressure because a counselling process had been announced this month end. “They will have nowhere to go,” he said. All of them work on contract for a meagre salary and without any security, he said.Another member Pushpa said that changing the teachers at this juncture with just three months to go for the SSLC examinations would greatly affect the children as they would not have time to adjust to new teachers.

She said the Government should give grace marks to the teachers of Morarji Desai Schools so that their selfless service could be recognised and that they were not “left in the lurch”.

The Kammaje School is run by the Social Welfare Department.
