Protests were held in the city on Wednesday demanding that former ministers Laxman Savadi, C.C. Patil and J. Krishna Palemar resign as MLAs for allegedly watching porn video in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.
Members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and its affiliated units staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office.
Addressing the members, CPI(M) district unit secretary B. Madhava said mere resignation as ministers would not absolve the three of disgrace they had brought to the State.

They should resign as legislators or the Speaker should initiate proceedings against them for bringing disrepute to the Legislative Assembly. The three should be arrested, he said.
Vasantha Achari, member of the CPI(M) district committee, said the conduct of the three legislators on Tuesday showed their disregard towards the problems of the people.
The Sadananda Gowda-led government did not deserve to be in power any further, he said. Congress members led by vice-president of the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee Ivan D'Souza staged a protest. Mr. D'Souza said the three former Ministers had brought disgrace to the State. “They should resign as legislators and come before the people,” he said.

Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat member Mamata Gatti said: “Their act throws to wind the BJP and RSS philosophy of holding women in high esteem.”
Congress activists burnt effigies of the three former ministers.
Activists of the Democratic Youth Federation of India staged a demonstration at Kulur junction on Tuesday night. Demonstrations were also organised by activists of the Social Democratic Party of India, Students' Federation of India, and of the youth wing of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind on Wednesday.
