April 03, 2013 01:17 pm | Updated 01:17 pm IST - MANGALORE:

MLA J. Krishna Palemar has denied allegation that he violated the election code of conduct by distributing T-shirts and shoes to inmates of Mangalore District Prison.

Mr. Palemar told The Hindu that he had gone to the prison on March 22 to meet a few persons arrested in connection with the home stay attack case. “I had gone to meet them as there was problem for an arrested person in writing examination.” Mr. Palemar said he spoke to a few of the arrested persons for about five minutes. “I met in the same way as others do and I did not go inside,” he said, and added that there was no distribution of T-shirts and shoes as alleged in a complaint filed before the Deputy Commissioner.
