One killed, two injured as bus rams into car

A man was killed, and two others injured, after a private bus rammed into their car near Ujire early on Friday morning. Around 6.50 a.m., Prajwal, Aditya and Nityananda, who reside in Bangalore, were headed towards Ujire from Belthangady, when an oncoming speeding private bus, that had veered to the wrong side of the road, crashed into them, said the Belthangady police.

While Prajwal and the driver Aditya have been admitted to the hospital with serious injuries, Nityananda succumbed to his injuries later. The driver of the bus has been arrested.

Police accused of assault

Police have begun investigation into a complaint filed by a truck driver, who alleged he was assaulted by three police personnel, near Kumbra, Puttur taluk.

The complaint names four police constables: Harish, Dayanand (prime accused) and Gangadhara and Ramesh.

“Depending on the report of the Deputy Superintendent of Police, we shall take appropriate action,” said Superintendent of Police Abhishek Goyal.

According to the Puttur Rural Police, on Saturday afternoon, Mohammad Nazir, from Haryana, had “run away” when the police were checking his arecanut-loaded vehicle. When the police chased him to Kumbra village, a large number of people surrounded Mr. Nazir, who had accused them of assaulting him.

However, in his complaint Mr. Nazir alleges that he did not see the police who were gesturing out of a non-police vehicle. He further alleges that he was targeted and beaten because of the community he belongs to.
