Nigerian national externed

The Udupi district police on Thursday externed a Nigerian national who was staying illegally here.

In a press release issued here, the district police said that the Nigerian national, Roqeeb Babatunde Raji, had come to Mumbai on August 14, 2011, and then registered himself at the District Police Office here on September 19, 2011.

He then did his Bachelor’s and Master’s course in Occupation Therapy course in Manipal.

His visa expired on January 31, 2017, while his passport was valid till December 30, 2020. But he continued to stay here illegally without informing the registration office. A case was booked against him at the Manipal Police Station on October 16, 2017, and he was produced before court here.

The court sentenced him to a simple imprisonment from October 16 to 25 with a fine of ₹ 10,000 and directed that he be sent out of the country.

He was taken to the Mumbai International Airport, where he was handed over to the immigration officers and sent to Nigeria, the release added.

Superintendent of Police Sanjeev M. Patil said that the district police would soon write to the immigration office to blacklist Babatunde Raji.
