Nemmadi kendras to be run by government

The Government will take over Nemmadi Kendras, presently being operated by private partners, within 45 days.

V. Ponnuraj, Commissioner, Survey Settlement and Land Records and Head, Urban Property Ownership Records Project, said the Government had asked him to streamline Nemmadi Kendras. He said this during in interaction with councilors in Mangalore on Monday. He was replying to Councillor Mariamma Thomas who alleged that people were suffering because of delay in rendering services at Nemmadi Kendra. Several applications for documents were lying pending for years, she said.

He earlier said he the survey department would be overhauled soon. The State Government had approved two proposals – setting up a complaint redressal mechanism and contribution evaluation mechanism. He said a pilot project in this regard would be launched in Mangalore. If any complaint is received against any surveyor, the complaint would not be closed till the complainant is satisfied, he said. A call centre would be opened to receive complaints.

Mr. Ponnuraj said evaluation mechanism would get proactive and check some of the surveyed properties and mistakes would be analysed. If lack of skills were to blame, the surveyors would undergo training.
