Leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Yogendra Yadav said that the idea, that the people’s choice in this Lok Sabha election was either Rahul Gandhi or M. Narendra Modi, is “a tragic choice”.
“It is a mockery of great political tradition of India. We should reject it,” he said while addressing party workers at the town hall here on Sunday.
Earlier addressing presspersons he said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was not an alternative to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA). It was a substitute.

The NDA practised the same kind of politics adopted by the UPA led by the Congress, he alleged.
He alleged that the UPA government was a defaulter both in its economic policies and welfare of people. It practised vote bank politics.
“The UPA government is discredited due to its records of corruption and non-performance,” he alleged.

He said that there was a need to change the nature of politics itself and bringing an alternative. Mr. Yadav alleged that the BJP and Mr. Modi were identified with what he called “majoritarianism” (majority).
He said that the AAP believed in governance through gram sabha. Its leader Arivind Kejriwal was a source of inspiration. The AAP was contesting the election for 400 seats to emerge as a viable alternative force.
The Lok Sabha elections would be the stepping stone for the party to spread its wings in the Assembly elections in states and prepare for it. To a question Mr. Yadav, a psephologist by profession said that political analysis should be able to throw light on the future of politics also and it should not be the mere interpretation based on the retrospective basis.
Addressing the gathering at the town hall the AAP candidate for Dakshina Kannada constituency M. R. Vasudeva alleged that the opposition of the Congress and the BJP candidates to the Nethravati diversion project was nothing but a “stunt”.
