MLA Pramod Madhwaraj: Udupi CMC ready for Paryaya festival throng

Six temporary toilets had been constructed at Beedinagudde, while nine temporary toilets had been constructed near Rajangana parking lot.

MLA Pramod Madhwaraj said on Thursday that the Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) had made all arrangements for the successful conduct of the Paryaya festival on January 18.

Mr. Madhwaraj said that since a large number of devotees from different parts of the State and the country were expected to participate, the CMC was giving priority for maintaining cleanliness in the city during the festival.

Six temporary toilets had been constructed at Beedinagudde, while nine temporary toilets had been constructed near Rajangana parking lot. These toilets would be provided with round-the-clock power and water supply.

Civic workers would work in three shifts to maintain cleanliness at the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) Bus Stand, Service Bus Stand and City Bus Stand. Bleaching power was being sprayed at places including drainages. Around 40 workers were cleaning the main streets of the city. Water was being sprinkled on all the main streets.

Potholes on all the roads in the city had been repaired. An amount of Rs. 1.9 crore had been spent on asphalting important roads in the city. These included the Kinnimulki-Hanuman Circle Road, Jodu Katte-Brahmagiri Circle Road. The contractors had given a two-year guarantee for these roads. If there was any damage to these roads, they would have to pay for it.

The road dividers on all important roads had been given a fresh coat of paint. The first phase of concreting of the Court Back Road had been completed. The road was expected to be ready for vehicular movement soon.

The State government had already released a grant of Rs. 3 crore each for Paryaya festival, and for the development of Udupi city. The CMC had prepared separate action plans for development of all 35 wards under both the grants and sent it to Bangalore for approval. The works would start after getting approval of the government.

New bus stand

A modern KSRTC bus stand would be constructed in two-acre and 94 cents land at Bannanje once the land belonging to PWD was handed to Department of Transport.
