Miscreants throw stones at prayer hall in Ullal

A few glass panes were broken bewteen midnight and 4 a.m.

Unidentified miscreants threw stones at a prayer hall in Kumpala near Mangaluru coming under Ullal police limits early on Monday.

According to police, the incident occurred between midnight and 4 a.m. A few glass panes of a window were damaged in the pelting. Ullal police have registered the case and are investigating.

Rider dies

A motorcycle rider died after hitting a stationary truck parked off National Highway 66 in the wee hours of Monday. Police have identified the rider as Ashwin, based on the complaint by Muralidhar, a resident of Jeppinamogaru.

Mr. Muralidhar in his information to the police said he saw the motorcycle and the body on Monday morning near Geeta Garage in Jeppinamogaru.

Police suspected that the rider must have lost control and hit the stationary truck resulting in his death.

Mangaluru Rural police have registered a case and are investigating.

Jewellery stolen

Jewellery worth over Rs. 11 lakh was stolen from a car parked in the parking lot of Panambur beach on Sunday afternoon.

Complainant Lakshmi, a resident of Ramanagara, had arrived at the beach along with relatives and parked the car in the parking lot.

They had kept all the jewellery in a bag beneath the rear seat of the car before locking the doors.

However, they found that miscreants had broken open the rear right side window pane of the car and taken away the bag. Panambur police have registered a case and are investigating.

Man falls into river, dies

A 28-year-old person slipped, fell and drowned in the Kubja River while crossing a footbridge at Kandlur village in Kundapur taluk on Sunday evening.

According to the police, Shekhar, had left home to go to the market at Kandlur at 6.30 p.m. on Sunday.

But while crossing the footbridge, he accidentally slipped, fell into the river and drowned.

His body was recovered at Kuchchettu in Gulvady village at around 10.30 a.m. on Monday.

A case of unnatural death had been registered at the Kundapur police station, the police said.

Woman falls into well, dies

A 20-year-old woman slipped and fell into a well and died at Kumbhasi village in Kundapur taluk on Monday. According to the police, Amrita (20) had gone near the well in her house at Kurvady in Kumbhasi village at around 8.30 a.m., when she slipped and fell into it.

She was removed from the well and rushed to the Government Hospital in Kundapur, where the doctors pronounced her brought dead.

A case of unnatural death had been registered and investigations were on, the police said.

Man dies in bus

A 55-year-old person died, when he was travelling in a private service bus from Gudeangady to Manipal, on Monday. According to social worker Nityananda Volakadu, the passenger Gopal Naik (55) had got into the bus at Gudeangady in Hiriyadka and had taken a ticket to Manipal. But he did not get down at Manipal.

The bus conductor went to check on Naik, when the bus reached Indrali bus stop.

But when the conductor touched him, he collapsed. Immediately the bus conductor contacted the traffic police outpost in Udupi and reported the matter to them.

The traffic police in turn called Mr. Volakadu, who rushed to the Udupi City Bus Stand with his ambulance and took Naik to District Government Hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead, Mr. Volakadu said.
