Several members of the Baikampady Village Citizen Association and members of the Moideen Jumma Masjid took out a protest here on Monday demanding an investigation into affairs of the masjid.

Aboobacker, after a “trivial argument”, said protesters. On Friday, District Armed Reserve constable Ranjith got into an argument with Ismael, whose bike collided with Ranjith’s motorbike. When other devotees took Ismael’s side, Ranjith fired into the air, and he later filed a “false” complaint of assault against the devotees, said the protesters.

The protesters forwarded their complaint to the District Commissioner seeking an investigation into the unnecessary use of gun in the altercation. The complaint also alleges that discrepancies by the masjid committee in constructing a marriage community hall at the cost of Rs. 1.75 crore, which was “not discussed or accounted for”.
