Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada A.B. Ibrahim instructed officials of the Mangalore City Corporation to shift street vendors surrounding the Central Market building to halls reserved for vendors inside the building.
At a meeting with the officials and the Central Market merchants on Saturday, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the officials to shift the vendors by convincing them without using the police force.

He asked the officials to shift the vendors by Tuesday. Later, it should be monitored continuously so as to disallow hawking on the roads around the market building.
Mr. Ibrahim said any of the three senior officials — Deputy Commissioner (administration), Deputy Commissioner (development) or the Health Officer of the Mangalore City Corporation — should visit the market daily to ensure the vendors were not flouting the rules and were not within the 200m radius of the Central Market building, a notified market area.
The merchants said as per law no parallel market should be there within 200m radius of a notified market.

They said the merchants in the Central Market paid licence fee and other taxes whereas street vendors outside the building were doing business without paying any fee, affecting their business.
The Deputy Commissioner said that corporation vehicles transporting solid waste (garbage) should be present at the market at 9.30 a.m. to shift the garbage.
