Mangaluru Cyclothon planned in October

A mega cycling event titled Mangaluru Cyclothon awaits cycling buffs in the city in October.

The Mangalore Bicycle Club and the Rotary Club of Mangalore have decided to ensure the participation of about 3,000 cyclists in the event, the date of which is yet to be finalised.

“We are planning to showcase Mangaluru at a global level on the lines of International Kite Festival and Surfing Festival being organised in the city.” It was also to increase the visibility of Mangaluru in various cycling forums across the world, the release said.

A significant portion of the funds raised through the event would be contributed to support social causes. It would be an opportunity for amateur cyclists as well us professional cyclists across the country to showcase their cycling skills. It would be open to international cyclists as well.

Various race category winners would win grand prize money, cash rewards and trophies on the lines of many prestigious cycling races, the release added.

“Mangalore is going to witness a colourful and exciting day where the city is going to be filled with passionate cyclists on fancy bikes vying for more speed and endurance. Above all, all the riders irrespective of age are going to have complete fun and are going to show the world that cycling has to be a way of life going forward both from fitness and environment point of view,” it said.

There would be 100 km race (pro-ride) and 50 km races (time bound); race for veterans aged 60 and above; exclusive race for women and amateurs; slow race for kids; fun ride; green ride; fashion ride; and cycling stunt performance.

There would be lucky draw for all participants of fun ride. The organisers were expecting 150 cyclists from India and abroad for pro-race.

The aim is to increase the visibility of Mangaluru in cycling forums across the world
