Manvitha M.K., who scored the second highest marks in the SSLC examination, attributes her success to studying regularly and self-confidence. The student of Vishwa Mangala English Medium High School, Konaje, Mangalore, shares the second rank with two others from the State — all scored 621 out of 625.
Surrounded by her delighted teachers and thrilled parents at her school, Ms. Manvitha said, “I did not expect a good rank but I expected good marks.”
She said she studied for two to three hours everyday, paying equal attention to all subjects and took tuitions for maths and science, and that her teachers and school helped her all through. Her advice to students was to “study everyday and be confident”.

She said she was interested in studying medicine and wanted to take up physics, chemistry, maths and biology (PCMB).
Shobha M., her mother, said she guided her daughter, who studied on her own. Mohan Das, her father, a businessman, said he guided her in co-curricular activities, especially in art and volleyball. Both of them said she was interested in science but that it was left to her to choose whatever she wished to study.
Appi Bai, Principal, Vishwa Mangala English Medium High School, described the Bharatanatyam dancer as “an all-rounder”, and as a “mild mannered, hardworking, intelligent girl, good in art, sports”. She said Manvitha has won prizes in art consistently and the latest is the third prize at the State-level in the Pratibha Karanji held this year. P. Pakirappa, president, Trustee, Vishwa Mangala Education Society, whose members are employees of Mangalore University, said that the 680-strong, 19-year-old, unaided school on Mangalore University campus had students from 8 to 10 surrounding villages including Pavoor, Harekala, Inoli, Pajir, Derlakatte and Thokkotu.

Priyanka S.K, a student of St. Ann’s School, Mangalore scored 604 out of 625 marks (96.6 per cent).
She wants to take commerce. Ms. Priyanka said she is not interested in doing medical or engineering. “I don’t want to do the same, all are doing that,” she said.
She said she had worked hard and her mother helped her a lot, especially in revising 29 chapters of Social Studies in one night as there was no holiday before that examination.
Kshitij U., a student of St. Aloysius High School, got 94.88 per cent (593/625) in SSLC.
He said he made a timetable in December but when asked whether he followed it, he said “not really”. However, he was attentive in class, listened to his teachers and then revised his lessons, which helped him. “The exams were good, easy but science was tough,” he said.
He said he is taking biology as he is “going towards medicine”.
