The Mangalore South police have arrested five persons in connection with the murder of Vikki Shetty (37) near Cascia Church Friday night. The police gave the names of the accused as Sharan (32), Rajesh (26), Yashwanth (35), Sampath (29) and Naveen (25).
Police said Vikki Shetty had hit Sharan with a huge stone in 2006 after which the latter was bed-ridden for a long time. The attack on Friday was a revenge for the same, the police said. The five accused have been remanded to judicial custody.

A group of unidentified persons stabbed and severely wounded a 20-year-old youth at Uliyathadkka near Kasaragod on Saturday.
Superintendent of Police Thomson Jose said Sijiesh (20) suffered injuries on abdomen and hands and was referred to a hospital in Mangalore. His condition is reported to be stable.
Senior police officials are camping in the locality and are closely monitoring the situation, he said. The incident comes close on the heels of the fatal attack on a youth by a group of people at Anangoor locality last month, triggering tension in Kasaragod.

Bus fatally knocks down grocer
A 58-year-old man was fatally knocked down by a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus on the busy Bank Road in Kasaragod on Saturday.
Dinesh Bhat was walking to a grocery shop where he was working when he was hit around 8 a.m.
The death of Mr. Bhat, a resident of Karnathakad locality and a familiar face for many in the town, triggered protests and traffic jam in the busy road for a short while.
He is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.
