Man washed away in Bantwal

A man was washed away in a tributary of Netravati in Bantwal town after he slipped accidentally while washing clothes Sunday morning.

Vivekananda (44), a daily-wage worker, was washing clothes by the Venkataraman Temple when he fell into the fast-flowing stream around 10.30 a.m.

Rescue attempts by passers-by were in vain. The body was yet to be found, said Bantwal Town Police.

Illegal sale of beef

In two separate raids in the district, two people were arrested for allegedly illegally selling beef. In a raid on a shed in an arecanut plantation at Polanje village near Subramanya around 10 a.m., police said two persons had been running an illegal slaughter house run on stolen cattle.

After allegedly stealing two cows from nearby villages on Saturday, Ismael Ibrahim and Ismael, both 35, are accused of slaughtering the animals and selling the meat illegally.

Two cows and waste meat were found in a pit by the shed during the raid.

While Ismael Ibrahim was arrested, his associate is absconding, said Subramanya police.

Earlier, in a raid by the Belthangady police around 8 a.m., Irfan was arrested for selling beef without a permit at Nada village in the taluk. According to the police, Irfan and three others were hawking beef illegally from white ambassador car.

While the police arrested Irfan, his associates Hasan, Akim and Hafir are reported to be absconding.

A total of 85 kg of beef have been seized.
