The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, accused of beating up people in Kuthethur on August 11, may face action with the top brass ordering a departmental inquiry after finding “shortcomings” in their conduct. CISF Deputy Inspector-General (South) N. Venugopal told The Hindu that the preliminary inquiry has revealed shortcomings in the conduct of the CISF personnel.
“We have ordered for a departmental inquiry based on the preliminary report findings. Disciplinary action will be taken against personnel involved,” Mr. Venugopal said.
As many as six persons were injured and five vehicles were damaged when the CISF personnel went on the rampage beating innocent people on Kuthethur road. Three of injured had to be hospitalised. The security personnel were allegedly irked by stones being thrown at their quarters.

Condemning the incident, the residents had staged a demonstration. Three injured persons filed a complaint with the police against the CISF personnel, while a CISF inspector had also filed a complaint.
The residents wrote to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister K.J. George seeking their intervention in the investigation of the case. Mr. George had written a letter to Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar in this regard.
CISF Senior Commandant Anil Bali, based in Kochi, was sent to conduct the preliminary inquiry into the incident. Mr. Bali also spoke to the residents.

Mr. Bali said as a part of the preliminary inquiry, he questioned CISF personnel and submitted his findings a few days ago. Mr. Bali said police were free to take action against the delinquent CISF personnel.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kharbikar said letter has been written to Mangalore Tahsildar to conduct a test identification parade. Based on identification, action will be taken to arrest the CISF personnel, he said.
