‘Kriti Jagattu’ to be released today

The Manipal Universal Press will be releasing its 119th publication, “Kriti Jagattu”, authored by T.P. Ashoka, critic and scholar in Kannada, at the Nutana Ravindra Mantapa, MGM College campus, here on Tuesday.

According to a press release, writer Vaidehi will release the book and H. Vinod Bhat, Vice-Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, will preside over the function.

The book release will be followed by felicitations to Prof. Ashoka, a recipient of the 2017 Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award for Kannada, for the book “Kathana Bharathi”. The felicitation address will be delivered by G. Rajashekar and Nagaraj Rao.

“Kriti Jagattu” is the third publication by Manipal University Press of Prof. Ashoka, the others being “Kathana Bharathi”, a collection of 20 literary critical essays on modern classics written in various Indian languages, and Vaidehi Kathana — A Critical Study of Vaidehi’s Narratives.

“Kriti Jagattu” is a book containing 26 essays that introduce, analyse, review and elucidate works pertaining to different countries, languages, traditions, genres, and gives a glimpse of the literature of the entire world.

The essays effectively present the response of the great writers from all around the world to the social, cultural and political events and also to the ethical, psychological and spiritual crises in the last 500 years. “This world of works” also establishes a relationship with the world of Kannada literature, and hence, the special significance of the book, the release said.
