KMF introduces chocolate flavour milk

The Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers' Union Limited (DKMUL) launched four new Nandini products and one litre curd packet at the 58th All India Cooperative Week celebrations that commenced here on Tuesday.

The new products are 200 ml bottle of chocolate flavour milk priced Rs. 15, 200 ml of kokum fruit punch at Rs. 10, 200 grams of khova at Rs. 52, and 180 grams of diced paneer at Rs. 40. The one litre curd packet has been priced Rs. 28.

The DKMUL said the chocolate flavoured milk targets youth who have a liking for flavoured and healthy milk. The kokum fruit punch, which is a mixture of kokum fruit juice and milk whey, will be a good energiser. These two products have a shelf life of three months. The new 180-grams diced paneer will be an addition to the 200 gram and 1 kg packets available in the market.

The new products will be available with 1,200 odd dealers and 18 Nandini parlour outlets in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

DKMUL president Raviraja Hegde Kodavur said these new products were among the value-added products launched to increase the revenue for the milk producer/farmer. “The profit we earn from these products will help in increasing the amount paid to the farmer,” he said.

Mr. Kodavur said the union was producing 2 lakh litres as against 3.5 lakh litres of milk required.

The union had been getting milk from neighbouring milk unions to meet the shortfall. He said loans should be offered for dairy activity in the district.

The State Government should encourage rearing of cows. He sought transport subsidy for procurement of dry grass from the neighbouring States.

Karnataka State Cooperative Federation President G.T. Deve Gowda commended the work of Karnataka Milk Federation. . He said the products of the KMF are the best and are of great demand in the country.
