The surroundings of Jeppu Market were cleaned by volunteers of Ramakrishna Mission’s Swachhta Abhiyan on Sunday. It was the 14th shramadan of the last phase of the five-year Clean Mangaluru campaign taken up by the mission.
The road in front of Bhagaini Samaj was cleaned. Garbage was removed. Students of Srinivasa Institute of Technology volunteered removed about two tipper loads of construction debris. Another team cleaned Jeppu fish market area. Dirty compound walls were cleaned and repainted. Volunteers visited each shop and urged vendors to keep the area clean. They cleaned the drains adjoining Bhagini Samaj and Jeppu Market. Roads and footpaths from Jeppu Market towards Morgan’s Gate were cleaned as well.
Volunteers removed nearly 500 unauthorised flex banners from the State Bank India bus terminus area, Hampankatta, Mallikatte, Jyothi, Falnir, Mangaladevi Road, Balmatta, PVS Junction and other places in the city on Sunday. Students of Karnataka Polytechnic did shramdan for about two hours on the Airport Road in front of KPT.

The mission organised seven swachh seminars in Dakshina Kannada last week. They were held at Women’s First Grade College, Puttur; Vivekananda Law College, Puttur; Alva’s Post-Graduate Section, Moodbidri; Vivekananda College of Engineering, Puttur; Sridevi College of Engineering at Kenjar; Vivekananda Arts and Science College, Puttur; and at Alva’s Institute of Technology at Moodbidri.
