The district unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) on Wednesday released a manifesto for the civic polls that was vague on many issues related to development of the city.
The first among the issues was related to shifting of old bus terminus and the private bus stand. Though it states about shifting of the bus terminus and the private bus stand, the manifesto was not clear as to how and where they should be shifted. “We need to locate them at suitable places,” Janata Dal (S) State vice president B. Nagaraja Shetty said, but did not favour having them at Mahaveera (Pumpwell) Junction.
Similarly, on the issue of street vendors, the manifesto said a permanent arrangement should be made for the vendors. When pointed that there was differences among parties regarding setting aside “vendor zones” as specified by the Supreme Court, Mr. Shetty said: “Yes, the facility needs to be created as per Supreme Court guidelines.” When he suggested creation of facilities similar to that created in Baikampady, the reporters pointed out that the same was not being used by street vendors.

Though the manifesto speaks about building new public toilets and also parks, it was not clear as to where these toilets and parks would come up.
Releasing the manifesto, Mr. Shetty said the party would field candidates in 48 wards and would support Revati, a BJP rebel candidate in Surathkal (West) and two candidates from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) contesting from Kulur and Jeppinamogaru. The party would support an independent from Central Ward, he said.
