Omprakash Kattimani, District Health and Family Welfare Officer, said on Friday that people were ignorant of the fact that the government was giving medicines free of cost for fatal diseases.
He was speaking at the World Health Day celebrations organised by the district administration, Department of Health and Family Welfare at the Manipal College of Nursing, here.
Dr. Kattimani said that many people were not getting treatment for the fatal diseases because of their ignorance.

The anganwadi workers and junior health workers should disseminate the information about the availability of these medicines to the people.
This will help the people to take advantage of the various health programmes drawn up for their benefit. People should take to exercise, yoga and a good diet to maintain their health. They should bring about changes in their lifestyle so as to maintain good health, he said.
Joint families had given way to nuclear families. Hence, parents should keep an eye on their children and their health. Due to the negligence of parents, sometimes, children took to narcotic drugs. If parents kept a vigil on their children, the chances of the latter falling into bad habits were less, he said.

The participants took an oath to cast their votes in the forthcoming parliamentary elections. A short play on prevention of fatal diseases was also staged on the occasion. Anice George, Dean, Manipal College of Nursing, Surendra Chimbalkar, District Leprosy Prevention Officer, Vasudev, District Health Surveillance Officer, were among those present.
