‘Give us manoeuvring space to deliver’

People should trust the police and they should be given the manoeuvring space to deliver, outgoing Inspector- General of Police (Western Range) Amrit Paul has said.

During a farewell function here on Sunday, he said that a lot of hard work was involved in solving crime cases and maintaining law and order in the region. “There is no magic wand with us,” Mr. Paul said.

“Officers do not sleep for days together to detect crime and maintain law and order. We work with clues and resources. With some manoeuvring space, we can deliver better results,” he said.

Mr. Paul has been transferred as the Inspector-General of Police (Administration) in the office of Director-General and Inspector- General of Police.

Mr. Paul said the two-year tenure in the Western Range was fruitful and had a good team of Superintendents of Police in four districts.

Outgoing Superintendent of Police Sharanappa S.D remembered the support he received from Mr. Paul and other senior police officers following the Karnataka High Court order in July 2014, which, he said, was traumatic.

Mr. Sharanappa, who is now posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), said his two-year tenure was self satisfying where he had done his best to improve professionalism among police. He asked people to lend the same support to Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, who will take charge as the Superintendent of Police in the next few days.
