A day after two inter-faith students were assaulted allegedly by a rightwing group at Pilikula Nisargadhama, four youths were arrested by Kavoor Police on Thursday.
Around 6 p.m., on Wednesday, the boy and the girl — both pre-university college students and classmates — were strolling in the park when the group assaulted them. In his complaint, the boy said that the group warned him against talking to girls from their community.
Kumar, Bipin, Kiran and Ravi — all residents of Vamanjoor and aged around 25 years — have been arrested after the boy, from a minority community, registered a complaint on Thursday. The four have been charged under sections of wrongful restraint (IPC 341), assault (IPC 323), intimidation and insult (IPC 504, 506) and promoting enmity between religions (IPC 295a, 153a).

An argument between a father and his son, who was in an inebriated state, turned violent with the son allegedly strangling his father at their house at Kumpapadavu near Moodbidri on Thursday.
Rajesh Gowda (28) is reported to have, in a fit of anger, strangled his father Meena Gowda (50). After committing the crime, he called up his mother Lalitha, who was in Moodbidri, and informed her that her “father was serious”, said Bajpe Police.

When she returned to the house around 4 p.m., she found her husband’s body by the bathroom door. In her complaint, she stated that the two had had regular fights over Rajesh’s alcoholism and its financial impact on the family of daily-wage labourers.
Police have booked a murder case against Rajesh.
Fatal accident A 28-year-old man succumbed to injuries a day after he was knocked off of his motorcycle by a car in Puttur Kasba town on Wednesday night. Naveen B., a resident of Bettampady, died in a hospital in Mangalore around 2.45 p.m. on Thursday, said the Puttur Traffic Police. Around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Naveen was headed for the Mani-Sampaje Highway when a car — which was turning “without indication” towards Puttur town — knocked him down, said the police.
