Follow Kerala model to promote tourism in Udupi, says Sorake

Refurbished website, app promoting tourism released

Vinay Kumar Sorake, Kaup MLA, has said that Kerala model of tourism should be promoted in the district to tap its full tourism potential.

He was speaking after launching the refurbished website and an app on tourism in Udupi during the World Tourism Day celebrations on Wednesday. Both the website and the app contain details of tourist spots in the district. A brochure and radio jingles on tourism in the district for FM radio too were released on the occasion. He said the Kerala government had made fully utilised the tourist potential of that State. It has even used ayurveda to promote medical tourism. Even the local people in Kerala have been trained in many places on dealing with tourists. They spoke to all the tourists with a smile, he said.

It is necessary to get an airport sanctioned for Udupi district to promote tourism in a big way. Tourism should also be introduced as one of the subjects in colleges, Mr. Sorake said.

At the same it was essential to see that there was no pollution owing to tourism. Some of the rivers in the district are getting polluted at the tail-end of their journey before joining the sea. It was necessary to stop this pollution, Mr. Sorake said. Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis said that the involvement of local people was essential at all tourist spots to promote tourism. People also have the responsibility of maintaining cleanliness in tourist spots, she said.

ZP president Dinakar Babu, Assistant Director of Tourism B.R. Anitha, and others were present on the occasion.
