Youngsters should focus on emerging technologies — namely robotics and artificial intelligence — which are changing the dynamics of employment, said T.V. Mohandas Pai, Chairman of Manipal Global Education, here on Sunday.
Speaking at a function to distribute scholarships by Vishwa Konkani Kendra, Mr. Pai said that the employment dynamics are fast changing with adaptation of emerging technologies such as robotics and artificial intelligence, which reduces the use of human beings for many works. “See the changes it has brought in the banking sector. Many banks are downsizing jobs,” he said and added that there are already 10 crore people without jobs now and 10 crore more will be added in the next 10 years.
Mr. Pai said that it was important for the young graduates to gain knowledge of the emerging technologies at reputed institutions in the country or abroad. While getting education in the U.S. was costly, young graduates can consider opting for higher studies in counties such as Germany, France and the Netherlands.

He said that the Vishwa Konkani Kendra has for the last eight years been providing financial support to Konkani-speaking students for their education, which was to alleviate poverty among Konkanis and other citizens of the country. Chairman of Tata Global Beverages Harish Bhat and Chief Executive Officer of Tata Capital Praveen P. Kadle also spoke.
Later, taking to reporters, Chairman of Vishwa Konkani Student Scholarship Fund Ramadas Kamat said that this year they had disbursed scholarship of ₹ 3.5 crore among 3,800 students. Of this, 700 are those pursuing engineering and medical courses. As many as 31 students have received scholarship for their postgraduate studies in institutes abroad. Scholarships were being given since 2010. Apart from scholarship, these students undergo training under the Kshamata programme for building their leadership and communication skills.
Mr. Kamat said that from October this year, the Kendra will start training for Civil Services Examination.
