The city-based engineering student Krishna Pawan Kumar G.N. presented a flute concert with aplomb and a touch of class on Sunday at Ravindra Kalabhavan.

The young musician was particularly impressive in the soothing presentation of Krithi Mamava Meenakshi in the Raga Varali. The 30-minute presentation of the raga began with a fine alapan that was meditative. Throughout he maintained the soothing effect what with accompanying artistes of repute — Vittal Ramamurthy of Chennai on the violin, Mannargudi Easwaran of Chennai on the Mrudangam, S. Karthick of Chennai on the ghatam, enhancing the musical experience.

All collaborated well to ensure that music lovers got more than they bargained for. He began with Nata Kuranji Varaman “Chalamela…” in Shanmukhapriya Raga. A highlight was Neraval where he paired up well with the violinist to produce pleasing music.

He remained undaunted by the reputation of the accompanying artistes.

The programme was organised jointly by the Department of Kannada and Culture, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mani Krishnaswami Academy, and Nadasaraswathi Sangeet Vidyalaya.
