City corporation tells KUIDFC to prepare the report

Reviving a more than a five-year-old proposal to construct a multi-level car parking complex at Hampankatta, the Mangaluru City Corporation in its council meeting on Monday resolved to ask a government agency to prepare a report on its technical feasibility and how to mobilise funds for the project.

It decided to ask the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC) to prepare the report.

Earlier, the corporation had entrusted the project to the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA). As there was no headway, the council withdrew the project from it about a year ago.

According to Mayor Harinath, as the KUIDFC has the provision to advance loan, it could also fund the project.

The project is slated to come up on the old service bust stand area which is now being used to park cars by paying a parking fee.

The council also decided to ask the KUIDFC to prepare financial and techno- feasibility reports on constructing a market complexes at Kadri-Mallikatta and Kankanady. The Mayor said that as the KUIDFC has the technical expertise and provision to advance loans, the three projects could be entrusted to it based on the outcome.

The renovated Town Hall lacked a dining hall even though the corporation rented it out for weddings. Hence those who hired the hall were being forced to hire a “shamiyana” for dining.

But, the corporation collected ground rent from the parties in addition to the rent of the hall.

The council agreed to build the dining hall on the town hall premises at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.06 crore. It concurred with an approval given by the Mayor in advance to this proposal. The project would be entrusted to Nirmiti Kendra. The fund for the project would be drawn from the 13th Finance Commission grants to the corporation.

The council gave approval for upgrading the road between Rosario Junction and State Bank of India Junction at an estimated cost of Rs. 1 crore. It agreed to install streetlights on Father Muller Road under Falnir ward at an estimated cost of Rs. 64.2 lakh.
