Enhance security steps, banks told

May 04, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - MANGALURU:

Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Sharanappa S.D. on Monday asked banks in the district to enhance their security systems and measures.

Reviewing the security arrangements of banks in the district at a meeting here, he said that bank branches should install a CCTV (closed circuit television camera) outside their premises to curb criminal activities. Branches of most of the banks in the district lack this arrangement, he said.

Mr. Sharanappa instructed the jurisdictional police to visit the branches of every bank and inform them about the need for installing a CCTV camera outside the branch premises. The jurisdictional officers will issue notices in this regard to the branches concerned in a week. The branches will have to install the CCTV cameras outside their premises within a month after that, Mr. Sharanappa said. He said that quality of the CCTV footages obtained from branches and from ATMs was poor in many cases.

Stressing the need for overhauling such camera systems in branches and ATMs, he asked the banks to install cameras that provide good quality images. Apart from CCTV cameras, the branches should also have good quality fire extinguishers and burglar alarms, he said.
