‘Enhance contact with the northeast’

1,008 silver pitchers being brought in a procession as part of the ‘Brahmakalashotsava’ celebrations of Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple in Udupi on Tuesday.

P.B. Acharya, Governor of Nagaland, said on Tuesday that there should be more contact between the people of the mainland with the northeast.

He was speaking at a public function held as part of the ‘Brahmakalashotsava’ celebrations of Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple, here.

Earlier, 1,008 silver pitches (“rajatha kalashas”) were brought in a procession from Jodu Katte to the temple, here.

Mr. Acharya said that India was a democratic and secular country with diversity. The diversity of the country was more evident in the northeast, where nearly 500 dialects were being spoken.

He also emphasised on more student exchange programmes from the northeast to Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts.

It was incumbent upon the people of other parts of the country to visit, understand and help the people of the North East India.

U.T. Khader, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, said that spirituality was the best antidote to stress that the fast-paced modern life had brought with it.

India was a country known for its humanity. People should not forget being humane to their fellow beings and helping them, he said.

He urged D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, to help organise an all religions harmony meet in Mangaluru.
