Higher Education Minister V.S. Acharya said on Friday that efforts were being made to set up a sports hostel here.
He was inaugurating the district-level Panchayat Yuva Kreeda Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) rural sports tournament, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, at the District Stadium, here.
Dr. Acharya said that the Government was focused on improving sports infrastructure in the State. As part of this programme, an indoor stadium with modern facilities had been inaugurated here recently. A swimming pool would be constructed near the indoor stadium soon, he said. Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts had always excelled in the field of education. These districts should also make their mark in the field of sports, Dr. Acharya said. President of zilla panchayat Katapady Shankar Poojary, Vice-President of Udupi City Municipal Council Bharati Chandrashekhar, Deputy Director of Public Instruction Nagendra Madhyastha, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Sitanadi Vittal Shetty were present.
