DYFI protest against arrests in a murder case

Published - May 30, 2014 12:52 pm IST - MANGALORE:

The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) recently staged a protest against the arrest of three persons in connection with the murder of Rajesh Poojary, an autorickshaw driver, in Kalpane near Bantwal on March 21.

Addressing the protesters, DYFI State president Muneer Katipalla said Irshad (21), Hussain (20) and Imran (20), arrested in connection with the murder, were not linked with the incident. While Irshad was sleeping in his house, Imran was at his work place in a quarry in Permanki on the day of murder.

The police suspected a person, who is bedridden, of giving money to the three accused of the murder.

Mr. Muneer alleged that the police had yielded to pressure to arrest the three persons. Family members of the three also participated in the protest.

Ruling out any pressure, Superintendent of Police S.D. Sharanappa said the arrests were based on the evidence that the police had gathered from the scene of crime. The narration of the accused of the murder matched with sequence of events gathered by police from the place of murder. The investigation was still on and police will continue with search for evidence that would show involvement or innocence of the three arrested persons.
