The former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda said in Mangalore on Friday that the government should not drop the proposal for creating 43 taluks in the State.
Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Gowda, who is set to take over as the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, said the government should allocate at least Rs. 100 crore for infrastructure for creating new taluks in the Budget to be presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in July.
Mr. Gowda said that all political parties, including the Congress, had been demanding the creation of new taluks for the past two decades. When the BJP was in power, the Opposition Congress had demanded for it. Now the Congress was keen on dropping it.

He said if the government dropped the proposal, it would amount to “political vengeance”. He opposed Mr. Siddaramaiah’s proposal of restoring Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Prevention Act, 1964.
Referring to a statement by Mr. Siddaramaiah that the government would take over the administration of Krishna Math and Mahabaleshwar Temple at Gokarna, he said that if the government went ahead with it, it would be violation of a court judgment. Mr. Gowda later claimed that the Supreme Court had ruled that the government should not interfere in its administration of Krishna Math.
