Deputy Commissioner Muddu Mohan directed the Assistant Commissioner S. Yogishwar and Kundapur Tahasildar Gayatri Nayak on Saturday to demolish the illegal construction of an island-like structure in the midst of Thombattu rivulet at a resort.

Mr. Mohan said that the island-like structure in the way of a river was against the law. The construction of footbridge to connect to the illegal structure too was a violation. “Nobody would be allowed to get away with such wanton destruction of forest and river resources in the district. I have directed the officials to take action under Section 133 of the Criminal Procedure Code,” he said.

He said that it was clear from the spot that some officials of the Departments of Minor Irrigation and Forests were involved in this matter. If they were following the rules and regulations, the structure and the bridge would never have come up. He directed Mr. Yogishwar and CEO of Zilla Panchayat M. Kanagavalli to conduct a thorough enquiry.

Mr. Mohan also directed Ms. Nayak to conduct an enquiry into the role of the Revenue Inspector and take action. “I will send a report to the government on this structure. We will initiate legal action in this matter,” he said.
