Daily wage worker found dead at Ujire

The body of a youth was found in a field near Ujire village in Belthangady taluk on Friday.

According to a complaint lodged at the Belthangady police station, Mahesh Naik (25), a daily-wage worker, had gone for fishing on Thursday night with his friend Rajesh Naik – both residents of nearby Padubettu.

Though Mr. Naik’s body was found amid an electric trap laid for pigs, the victim’s father, Manjappa Naik has alleged a foul play , the police said. A blunt weapon nearby and wounds on the victim’s body had indicated an attack, the police said, adding that he could have been killed accidentally.

The complaint says that Mr. Rajesh Naik attempted to cover up the killing by placing the body in an electric trap. The police are yet to arrest anyone in connection with the case.

Two drown

A 15-year-old boy and a girl were found dead on Tannirbhavi beach on Thursday evening. According to Panambur police, the boy and the girl from Moodushedde, who are distantly related, left their houses on Wednesday. Their relatives registered a missing complaint with Kavoor police. On Thursday evening, passers-by reported two bodies on the beach that were later identified as that of the missing boy and the girl. The police suspect the boy and girl ended their lives by entering the sea.

Electrocuted

A 40-year-old labourer from Haveri was electrocuted when he came in contact with a cable television wire that was touching a high tension power line in Krishnapura 6th block in Surathkal police station limits on Thursday.

According to Surathkal police, Jaffer was asked to put bench cables on the poles laid on one side of the road. On the other side of the road, a few workers were tying cable television wire to the electric poles.

A portion of the cable television wire got in touch with the high tension power supply line and Jaffer came in contact with the wire. He died on the spot, the police said.

Held

Two persons were arrested by Barke police for illegal possession and sale of a country-made pistol. The police said 61-year-old Sitaram Rao, a resident of Dongarkeri, had reportedly planned to sell a country-made pistol to Muhibulla (45), a resident of Shimoga.
