Cultural programmes add colour

Students of Volakadu Government Composite High School performing Bharatnatyam Yakshagana Samagama at the Independence Day function in Udupi on Friday.

Cultural programmes added colour to the Independence Day function at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College grounds here on Friday.

The programmes began with the singing of ‘Raitha Geete’ by students of Mukunda Kripa English Medium School. It was followed by an Assamese folk dance by students of MGM Pre-University College.

Students of Volakadu Government Composite High School presented ‘Bharatnatyam Yakshagana Samagama’. Next, it was the turn of the students of Adiudupi High School to present ‘Veeragaase’, which was followed by ‘Jai Ho’, a dance performance by students of Government Pre-University College. ‘Vande Mataram’ dance was presented by students of Bailoor Vasudeva Kripa English Medium School. This was followed by eye-catching dance performances by students of Government Girls Pre-University College and Poornaprajna Pre-University College. Sahana Kamath of Government PU College, Belman (SSLC, Kannada medium); Bhargavi D. Shetty of Venkataramana English Medium School, Kundapur (SSLC, English medium); Abhilash N.K. of Government PU College, Malpe (arts); Divya Prabhu of Sri Bhuvanendra PU College, Karkala (commerce); and Prerana Krishnaraj and Akshatha Nayak of R.N. Shetty PU College, Kundapur (science), who had scored high marks in SSLC and PU examinations were felicitated by district in-charge Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake.

As many as 16 government officers/employees were given silver and bronze medals for exemplary work rendered during 2011 Census in Udupi district. The silver medal winners are Suresh Rao, Prasanna, Abdul Razak, Lalita B., Malati Nayak, Nagaraj, Raymond Rebello, Sadhan, Jyoti Acharya, Balakrishna Nayak and S. Krishnamurthy.

The bronze medal winners are Varija, Ravindra Shetty, Satish Shettigar, M. Jagannath Rao and Jayashree L.
